Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that each Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assembly (MMDA) will receive at least GHS 25 million in 2025 as a budget.
The amount he explained is to help boost local development in their respective assemblies.
He disclosed this on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, when he addressed Parliament.
The minister said that a first-quarter disbursement of GHS 987 million has already been made to the District Assemblies Common Fund, with 80% going directly to the assemblies.
According to him, as part of the promise by the current government to revitalise the local economy, the Mahama administration has prioritised improving the financial strength of the District Assemblies.
He commended Parliament for endorsing, as part of the 2025 budget, the government’s proposal to ensure that a minimum of 80% of allocated DACF resources are transferred directly to the MMDAs.
He added that the government is guaranteeing that approximately GH¢6.1 billion of the GH¢7.57 billion earmarked for 2025 will be disbursed directly to spur local economic activities at the district level.
