President John Dramani Mahama has commended the Asantehene for his contribution to bringing peace in Dagbon after the 16-year-old Dagbon chieftaincy conflict.
The president said the involvement of the traditional ruler in resolving conflict brought lasting peace to the area.
He has therefore expressed hope that similar progress could be made in the ongoing Bawku conflict.
He was confident the traditional ruler would help in restoring peace in Bawku through his mediation efforts.
President Mahama made the remarks when he hosted the Asantehene and his delegation of eminent chiefs to pay a courtesy call on the President on Monday, June 2.
“Through your steady hand and moral support, as chair of the committee of eminent chiefs, you led Dagbon from years of painful division into an era of reconciliation and renewed leadership.
“You stepped forward to assist our nation in another moment of great need. Your Majesty’s unwavering efforts to mediate the Bawku conflict, though complex and challenging, offer our country a renewed sense of hope through quiet diplomacy, cultural sensitivity and unwavering resolve. You are helping to pave the way towards peace in one of the most fragile areas of our republic. I wish you well in this endeavour, and we all have confidence that lasting peace will come to Bawku.”
