Alex Mensah, a survivor of the June 3 fire and flood disaster, has disclosed that securing employment has become a significant challenge for him.
The driver, who sustained burns during the incident a decade ago, stated that he is currently facing severe financial difficulties due to his situation.
Despite being a qualified driver, Mensah expressed that obtaining a job in his preferred field has become a struggle.
He lamented that his family, including his wife and children, are currently residing with his mother-in-law due to his inability to pay rent.
Following a series of surgeries after the incident, Mensah’s face appears scarred, making him look like a 70-year-old man, which has further complicated his job search.
He appealed to car owners to consider employing him, citing his diligence as a driver.
During an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mensah recounted the events of the incident, stating that he was waiting in line at a filling station to purchase fuel when the blast occurred.
He described feeling burns on his face and attempting to escape, only to be thrown by another blast from the fuel station and land in front of Vienna City. Mensah struggled to return home before being admitted to the 37 Military Hospital after being rejected by Achimota Hospital.
He spent a year and three weeks in the hospital undergoing multiple surgeries. Upon his release, Mensah’s children were initially unable to recognise him due to his condition and kept their distance.
