Wontumi isn’t above the law; the Minority’s move to EOCO was pure foolishness. – Nyonkopa Daniels

The Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, Madam Nyonkopa Daniels, has opined that the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, is not above the law.

She opined that she is just like any other Ghanaian and must be treated equally before the law and not given any special treatment.

She slammed the minority caucus in Parliament and the members of the NPP for politicising the arrest and detention of Mr Bosiako.

Madam Daniels described the protest by the minority as pure foolishness.

Speaking in an interview, she asserted that it was about time politicians allowed the state institutions to deal with persons under investigation for any act of corruption.

She said the level of corruption, greed and selfishness on the part of politicians when they assume national office is something we have to address.

The peace advocate advised members of the two major political parties to stop defending corrupt politicians and allow the state to deal with all those who are persons of interest.

She ruled out the claims that Wontumi is being targeted or politically persecuted.

To her, the most important thing is that he is a person of interest and being investigated for several criminal offences, including fraud, causing financial loss to the state and money laundering.

Madam Nyonkopa Daniels stated that these are serious cases that must be investigated, and if there is merit in the case, then he will have his day in court to defend himself.

She also slammed those who are attacking the current head of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Raymond Archer.

“Charman Wontumi is not above the law. If Chairman Wontumi has erred, he must face the law. It should not be politicised to the point that MPs will go and sit on the floor and be making needless noise over the matter. The two major political parties must act responsibly. You don’t become a superpower and intimidate people when in power because power changes, and you also don’t engage in needless, politically selfish games while in opposition.

We should no longer entertain people who come into office to steal our resources and be defending them. We have people who engage in criminal activities against the state and then go behind political parties seeking refuge. Never again should we allow these things to continue to fester.”
