Chairman of the Ghana Muslim Mission Sheikh Dr Amin Bonsu has advised Muslims, particularly the youth, to eschew all forms of immorality and use the celebration of Eid-Al-Adha in seeking a renewed encounter with Allah.
He stated that the principles of Islam do not allow Muslims to engage in fornication, abortion, use of cocaine and other narcotics, armed robbery and other evil acts that cause harm to society.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he explained that ’the celebration of Eid-Al-Adha is a sacred and holy day that Allah accepts our prayers, and so as Muslims, we have a responsibility to seek his face and have an encounter with him. As Muslims, we have to abide by our call to love, seek peace and unity. We have to pray for our nation, ourselves, friends and families.
My advice to the youth also is that we should not engage in acts of lawlessness or anything evil. Those who are not married should not engage in premarital sex. They should avoid alcohol, cocaine and other forms of narcotics. ‘Smoking weed and sniffing cocaine will make you insane, so protect yourselves so you will have a place in Allah’s kingdom,’ he stated.
He used the opportunity to admonish Muslims to extend a hand to the poor and support them since that is one of the core pillars of Islam.
The celebration is also known as Bakrid Eid, or the Islamic Feast of Sacrifice.
Muslims all over the world celebrate the festival in memory and honour of the Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to obey Allah’s command to sacrifice his son.
It is also celebrated to commemorate the end of the pilgrimage, which is a religious requirement.
Muslims who are financially secure are required to perform the Hajj at least once in their lifetime.
