The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, has reiterated the importance of decentralising Ghana’s education governance structure.
His comments align with President John Mahama’s recent call to decentralise education management in Ghana, aimed at enhancing productivity and addressing local sector challenges.
During a ceremony at the Jubilee House on Friday to receive the National Education Forum’s final report, the President emphasised that a decentralized education system will enable local communities to better connect with education.
“Local governments, district education offices, school boards and community leaders must be given greater authority, flexibility and accountability in managing our schools. Centralized decision-making has led to delays, inefficiencies and disconnection from the local realities.
“Decentralization will not only improve service delivery but also restore a sense of ownership and urgency at the grassroot level,” President Mahama stated.
Commenting on the move in a Facebook post, the Builsa South lawmaker added that the move will ensure timely and efficient education service delivery.
“H.E John Dramani Mahama emphasized a key recommendation made by Ghanaians, on June 5th 2025, during his speech on the occasion of receiving the final report of the National Education Forum.
“Indeed, a decentralized education governance structure not only makes sense but will ensure timely and efficient education service delivery,” Dr. Apaak added.
