The former Executive Director of the National Service Scheme, who is currently the Member of Parliament for Yagaba-Kubori, Mustapha Ussif, has refuted claims of any wrongdoing in the alleged GH¢548 million payroll fraud scandal at the Authority (NSA).
The lawmaker in a statement noted that he did not engage in any form of corrupt activities and hence was prepared to face the law to prove his innocence.
He was responding to the press conference addressed by Attorney General and Minister of Justice Dr Dominic Ayine regarding the scandal that has hit the Authority and the alleged involvement of former officials.
Dr Dominic Ayine disclosed that twelve former officials of the NSA will soon face criminal charges for their alleged roles in a large-scale payroll fraud scheme that cost the state over GH¢548 million.
The minister described the scandal as “a well-organised network of corruption” that cost the country GH¢548 million.
The MP in his response maintained that he served with “diligence and honesty” during his tenure at the NSS from February 2017 to January 2021.
“It is my fervent belief that once you hold public office, you should at all material times, and at whatever cost, be ready, willing, and able to account for your stewardship,” he said. “Therefore, I wish to state that I am ready, willing, and able to account for my stewardship at the National Service Scheme.”
