The family of former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta has successfully undergone a robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, to treat prostate cancer.
A statement issued by the wife, Prof. Mrs Angela Ofori-Atta, disclosed that the husband, who has been declared wanted and a fugitive from justice, went through the surgery on Friday, 13th June 2025.
She stated that the process lasted over four hours and was part of a planned treatment following a confirmed diagnosis earlier this year.
“My husband, Ken Ofori-Atta, the former finance minister, has undergone the scheduled robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy. This was to deal with prostate cancer, and it was done at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, on Friday, June 13th. The procedure took 4+ hours.
The doctors are pleased with how the procedure went and will now place him on a postoperative regime.
Kenneth has always been resilient. But this has been very difficult, with the OSP choosing the period just before his surgery to declare a red alert on him.
Kenneth is bearing up well and focused on doing whatever he can to be restored to good health,” the statement said.
Ken Ofori-Atta was recently placed on Interpol’s red notice list after being declared a wanted fugitive from justice by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
He is currently under investigation for multiple criminal allegations, including contracts relating to petroleum revenues, electricity supply, and ambulance procurement.
He is also under investigation over a controversial national cathedral project described as the world’s most expensive hole.
