Supreme Court nominee Justice Philip Bright Mensah has opposed proposals to extend the retirement age for judges from 70 to 75.
Providing the reason for his opposition, the judge stated that the demanding nature of the job makes such an extension unwise.
He said this when he appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
‘’I will never advocate that the retirement age of a judge, a Supreme Court judge for that matter, be raised from 70 to 75,’’ he stated.
He stated that countries with judges over the age of 70 have fewer cases sent to their apex courts than Ghanaian judges do.
