The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has disclosed that the government of Ghana has secured a €5 million grant from the Italian government to strengthen technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
He disclosed this boss during the inauguration of the Governing Board of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) in Accra.
“I am pleased to announce that the Italian government is supporting technical and vocational education in Ghana with a five million euro grant,” the minister stated. “If I am to recommend beneficiary institutions, you will certainly be among them.”
The minister stated that the funding will play a critical role in equipping more young people with employable skills, fostering entrepreneurship, and easing the pressure on the already overburdened public sector.
“We need to begin producing entrepreneurs who can create their own jobs rather than rely solely on public sector employment. That’s why today’s inauguration is so significant,” he said.
The newly inaugurated board is chaired by Sebastin Fred Deh.
The other members of the board are Rejoice Emefa Dankwa, Gloria Bortele Noi, Divine Yao Ayidzoe, Caroline Chapman Agyemang, Zakaria Sulemana, Arko Dometey, Yvonne Asare-Yeboa, Dennis Kwadwo Danquah, Imran Shams Kwakye, Dr Kingsley Arkorful, Rahinatu Mahama Yakubu, and Dr Eric Kfi Adzroe.
On his part, Chairman Sebastin Fred Deh assured the minister that they will commit themselves to advancing technical and vocational education in Ghana.
He stressed that the team will work diligently to champion the sector and ensure its transformative impact on national development.
