Hon. Emmanuel Tobbin, Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has refused to allow the Electoral Commission (EC) to declare the parliamentary results for the Ablekuma North constituency due to ‘abrɔ ne beyie’.
He noted that there is no ambiguity surrounding the outcome of the elections, but the NDC is bent on creating tension and confusion to prevent the EC from discharging its duty.
The lawmaker was emphatic that the NPP’s candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie, is the validly elected person to represent the constitution, and no form of intimidation and scare tactics from the NDC will change that fact.
Appearing on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr Tobbin asserted that the police ought to provide security for the EC to finish its job as ordered by the court.
‘Akua Afriyie won the constituency seat in Ablekuma North, but the NDC has refused to allow the EC to declare the results due to ‘abrɔ ne beyie’. We have spoken about this, and yet, the NDC is preventing the rightful person from being declared. The NDC is aware that when the EC finishes with the process, Akua Afriyie will declare as the elected MP. That is, they are engaging the lackadaisical attitude. If the NDC knew it had won the polls, they would have done everything possible to be declared the winner.
Elections are not about magic, but they are about the numbers. The figures have been tabulated, and the NPP’s candidate won the election, and nothing can change that.’’
