Political analyst Mr Alex Emmanuel Nti has opined that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has lost some appreciable relevance which it must work to regain.
He asserted that the NPP has undergone several changes, and the 2024 general elections and its outcome have been a struggle.
He argued that since the era of the late Adu Boahen, the NPP managed to make some gains up until the era of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
However, the era we are in today is nothing to write home about.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he stated that the record of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was a terrible defeat.
“Dr Bawumia, the former vice president, was marketed by the NPP for eight solid years. He was touted as the economic messiah, and yet, despite their strategies, he lost miserably with 38 plus something per cent. This shows that the NPP is no longer attractive.
Ghanaians have shown through their votes in 2024 that the NPP as a party is no longer attractive. Some individuals have hijacked the party and are doing things for their selfish and personal gains,” he added.
He indicated that Ghanaians, by their votes in 2024, proved that Dr Bawumia was no longer popular and not the economic ‘wizard’ we knew in the past.
“Dr Bawumia has lost his face value. His popularity has dwindled, and that is why a lot of people want to contest him in the presidential primary the party is scheduled to organise on January 31, 2026.”
He further advised the party to tread cautiously with this new plan, as it could trigger a chaotic situation in the party and legal battles for the NPP.
