The Chairman of the NPP UK Branch, Kingsley Adumattah Agyapong, also known as Wofa K, has declared that the party’s presidential primary on January 31, 2026, will be a two-horse race between former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong.
According to him, other candidates who have expressed interest in leading the NPP in 2028 stand no realistic chance of winning the presidential candidate slot and should “kiss it goodbye”.
Wofa K stated that, based on research he personally conducted, the presidential candidacy will come down to either Dr Bawumia or Kennedy Agyapong.
He made these remarks during an interview on Rainbow Radio 92.4FM UK with Dr Ren, host of Drive Talk.
“As it stands now in our political party, Dr Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong are the two frontrunners. The slot for the presidential candidate will go to one of them. There is nobody who can convince me otherwise—from the research I’ve done and the feedback from the grassroots, it is a two-horse race between Ken and Bawumia. Others will certainly file to contest, but it is clearly a race between these two aspirants,” he said.
He was, however, quick to advise the party to manage the outcome of the presidential primary in a way that will not divide the party.
Wofa K emphasised that the party faces a herculean task in convincing Ghanaians to vote massively for the NPP, both in the presidential race and in securing a parliamentary majority.
He also underscored the need for all aspiring candidates to put an end to personal attacks and insults, warning that such behaviour only deepens internal divisions.
The politician added that, heading into the 2024 elections, the NPP’s organisational structure—from the grassroots to the national level—was fractured, which contributed to “the most humiliating defeat this political tradition has ever encountered”.
Meanwhile, he has called on the supporters of both aspirants to stop vilifying and attacking each other.
He specifically wants the two leaders to personally call their followers to order if they are indeed concerned about party unity.
