The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a statement cautioning the public against an ongoing recruitment scam.

A statement was issued by the Public Affairs Department. Its attention has been drawn to ongoing fraudulent activities by individuals impersonating senior military commanders and promising the public recruitment into the forces.

According to the statement, the modus operandi of the scammers is to deceive and extort money from unsuspecting members of the public under the pretence of offering recruitment support.

”The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to categorically state that there are no recruitment exercises ongoing for soldiers. However, enlistment for potential officer cadets, which began last year, is at its final stages. Any individual or group claiming to facilitate recruitment into the Armed Forces in exchange for money is engaging in criminal activity.”

The GAF advised those who have encounters with such individuals to report to the nearest police station so the offenders are arrested.

“Members of the public who have been approached by such scammers are advised to report to the nearest police station for appropriate action. The Ghana Armed Forces is working closely with law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute these imposters.”

The statement which was released and signed by Acting Director General of Public Relations, Captain VA Aarhin, said when recruitment begins, they will publish it in the Daily Graphic and Ghanaian Times newspapers.

“When recruitment processes begin, announcements will be communicated through official platforms of the Ghana Armed Forces in addition to the Daily Graphic and the Ghanaian Times. The public is strongly encouraged to rely solely on these trusted sources for accurate information.

The Armed Forces urges all citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate in the efforts against fraud and criminality. The support of the general public in this endeavour is highly appreciated.”
