The Rainbow Radio Listeners Fun Club, in partnership with Peace Watch Ghana and powered by the management of Rainbow Radio—with support from the Municipal Assembly—has organised a cleanup exercise at Pokuase and its surrounding areas.

Members of the club, along with other supporting groups, cleaned choked gutters, the market area, the station, and other parts of the community.

Speaking to the media, the chairman of the group, Obaapa Papa, said the exercise was part of their initiative to support the government’s Clean Ghana campaign. He emphasised that authorities alone cannot achieve a cleaner environment, and as a responsible group, they feel obligated to contribute toward keeping the society clean. He also appealed to the government to provide support for sustainable sanitation efforts.

Obaapa Papa extended his appreciation to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Mr Akwetey Agbo, for his support and called for continued collaboration on regular cleanup activities.

He also commended the management of Rainbow Radio, as well as sponsors Blue Skies and Twenlium Industries Ltd producers of Verna Mineral Water and Bigoo carbonated drinks for their contributions.

In his remarks, the MCE for Ga North, Mr Akwetey Agbo, congratulated the Rainbow Radio Listeners Fun Club and encouraged them to continue the initiative, which aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s “Reset Agenda” that prioritises sanitation. He also noted that addressing flooding in the area remains a significant challenge.

The Assemblyman for the area, Evans Nii Ashaley, praised the group and encouraged them to sustain the exercise.

Madam Nyonkopa Daniels, Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, urged Ghanaians to stop the indiscriminate disposal of waste to prevent environmental degradation.

She stated that her organisation supported the exercise because it was a laudable initiative.

Mr Selase Koku Edinam, General Manager of Rainbow Radio, noted that the station supported the Listeners Fun Club in this exercise because it was crucial and aligned with the station’s core values. He stressed that it is important for the station to back activities that benefit the Ghanaian public.

Rainbow Radio Listeners Fun Club subsequently donated a dustbin each to the Pokuase Market, the Police Station and Assembly.

Other groups and partners that supported the exercise include Monte Carlo, Susuka, Youth For Development Fitness Club, Ojaman Foundation and Pokuase Youth Association.
