Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has stated that the President John Dramani Mahama government will not interfere unduly in the affairs of public universities.
According to her, the government will rather empower their councils and management to carry out their statutory responsibilities.
She have the assurance while speaking at the 58th Special Congregation of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang posited that the government remains commited to academic freedom and institutional autonomy.
According to her, the government, through the Ministry of Education, will ensure universities comply with policies and regulations, without interfering politically.
“The government places a high premium on academic freedom and ensures smooth functioning of government councils and management.
“I want to assure you that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is firmly committed to empowering university councils and managements to perform their statutory duties without undue political interference,” the Vice President added.
