The Ghana Police Service has announced the successful foiling of a planned robbery, leading to the arrest of three suspects. The group allegedly intended to steal a gold consignment valued at over GHC 1.3 million.
The Service stated that the operation was the result of an intelligence-led effort.
The suspects, Adams Zibo, Massawud Yussif, and Kenneth Khartey, were apprehended on Thursday, June 26, 2025, along the Accra–Akuapem–Mamfe road.
The Special Support Unit (SSU) of the Ghana Police Service at the National Headquarters initiated the operation on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
This followed intelligence indicating that a gold dealer’s driver and an individual posing as his bodyguard had conspired to rob the dealer during a scheduled gold delivery the following day.
Preliminary investigations revealed that on Thursday, June 26, 2025, Kenneth Khartey was arrested near Akuapem–Mamfe. He was on a motorbike, reportedly trailing a Land Cruiser transporting the gold consignment.
Later that same day, suspects Adams Zibo and Massawud Yussif were apprehended in East Legon, driving an unregistered blue Hyundai vehicle.
Investigations established that these two suspects had procured firearms, motorbikes, and a getaway vehicle for the robbery and were responsible for the sale of the gold after the planned heist.
Fortunately, the gold dealer was rescued safely, and the gold, weighing approximately 1.2 kilograms and valued at GHC 1,350,343.53, was secured.
The Police also confirmed that all three suspects are currently in custody, assisting with ongoing investigations, and will soon be put before court.
