The 24-Hour Economy Policy is just ‘lip service’, the government has no policy documents to support it — Kwabre East MP

The Member of Parliament for Kwabre East, Hon. Akwasi Gyamfi Onyina-Acheampong, has criticized the government’s proposed 24-hour economy policy, questioning its direction and effectiveness.

According to Hon. Onyina-Acheampong, the policy currently lacks concrete actions and adequate budgetary support, which he believes renders it ineffective.

He specifically cited the 2025 budget presented to Parliament, stating that it does not include explicit allocations for the 24-hour economy policy.

This omission, he argues, suggests the government is not serious about implementing the policy, despite having campaigned on it for over a year prior to the 2024 election.

In an exclusive interview with Rainbow Radio 87.5fm’s Parliamentary Representative, Bohyeba K Afriyie, Hon. Onyina-Acheampong described the policy as “lip service,” emphasizing that the government has yet to produce any formal policy documents to substantiate its claims.

He further lamented the perceived cancellation of the previous government’s One District One Factory (1D1F) policy, which he believes could have significantly complemented and boosted the current administration’s 24-hour economy initiative.

Hon. Onyina-Acheampong’s criticism underscores the need for the government to provide greater clarity and substantive details regarding its 24-hour economy policy. While the government has established a secretariat to initiate the policy, critics maintain that more tangible measures are required to ensure its successful implementation and effectiveness.
