Deputy Director of Elections for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Gibril, has asked constituents of the Ablekuma North constituency to remember what former President Akufo-Addo told Ghanaians about the need to vote for a parliamentary candidate whose party is in office.
The politician said although he does not agree with the former president on a number of issues, in this instance, he agrees with him that when voting in a parliamentary election, especially a rerun or by-election, it is important to vote for a party that is in office.
He was responding to the NDC’s preparedness for the rerun in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency.
President Akufo-Addo, in 2020, took a swipe at independent parliamentary candidates in the December elections and asked Ghanaians not to vote for them.
He also called on Ghanaians to vote for his parliamentary candidates because with their government in power, development would be much easier.
Mahdi Gibril, in his remarks, stated that the constituents in Ablekuma North have the right to decide who they want to vote for; however, they should consider voting massively for the party’s candidate, Ewurabena Aubynn.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said, “The 19 polling stations should come out in their numbers and vote massively. We cannot use technicalities to deprive them of their MP and representation. They should remember what former President Akufo-Addo said: he had encouraged voters to vote for parliamentary candidates with their party in office. So they should think about development and vote massively for the NDC so that they will easily get development.”
