Afriyie’s decision to rerun portrays selfishness and a betrayal of the party’s position – NPP

National Communications team member of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Kwadwo Agyei Yeboah, popularly known as Nana Kay, has stated that the party has not changed its position to boycott the rerun of the 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency.

Speaking in an interview on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he expressed surprise that the party’s candidate had announced she was still in the contest.

Nana Kay said he then had to call the leadership to find out if the decision to boycott had been changed, but “our position has not changed as a party. Our collation showed we had won, so why should we go into the election again? That is the official position of the NPP.”

“The posture of the NDC is like the story of the woman who slept on her baby and killed the baby, and later exchanged her dead baby with that of her rival. In the story, the woman who had killed her baby wanted the one alive to be killed and divided into two. That is the same thing the NDC is doing. They lost the election and want to use every available means to deny us our victory.”

“I don’t know why Nana Akua Afriyie took the decision to contest the rerun. Personally, and from my own perspective, I wish her well and pray that God will grant her victory. But there are so many implications her decision to contest will bring. Her political party took a decision not to participate, and we were fighting in her interest. The national chairman, general secretary, and the organizer are not doing this for their personal interest but for her interest, so I am surprised she has defied the party to contest.”

Nana Kay emphasised, “While I wish my mother well, my allegiance is to the party, not an individual. The NPP transcends any single member. Our predecessors served and departed, and we have since assumed leadership. Therefore, if an individual chooses to defy the party and act independently, I cannot offer my support. This is a reciprocal relationship, dependent on the alignment of both the party’s interests and the candidate’s objectives. Her decision demonstrates that she does not require the party’s backing, and thus, we extend our best wishes.”

The aspiring National Organizer lamented that the NDC is using its access to state power to intimidate the NPP and use violence to steal the will of the people.

Nana Kay reiterated that even if the EC Chairperson declares the NDC candidate winner, she would be “sacked.”
