The Ghana Police Service has taken swift action against the police officer who assaulted a journalist in the ongoing rerun of 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency.
A statement issued by the police stated that the officer has been interdicted and is facing internal disciplinary procedures, according to a press release issued today, July 11, 2025.
The incident, which generated widespread condemnation online, led the Ghana Police Service to initiate an immediate investigation.
The officer’s case has been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) for further inquiry.
“The Ghana Police Service has monitored a viral video in which one of our officers is seen assaulting a reporter,” the statement signed by Richmond Mensah, Assistant Superintendent of Police for the Director, Public Affairs.
It further assured the public of a thorough investigation into the matter, with updates to be communicated as they become available.
