Hon. Felix Akwetey Okle, Member of Parliament for Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfrom, has expressed deep concern over the growing insecurity in his constituency following the tragic death of a 21-year-old mobile money vendor who was shot dead.
Twenty-one-year-old mobile money (MoMo) vendor, Desmond Adzah, was shot and killed by suspected armed robbers at Quarters Junction, a suburb of Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Municipality.
The tragic incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, while Desmond was returning home from work.
According to a report by Adom News, the unknown assailants ambushed and shot him multiple times. He was rushed to the Ngleshie Amanfro Polyclinic but died while receiving treatment.
Speaking to the media, Hon. Akwetey Okle stated that he has visited the family of the deceased to offer his condolences, emphasizing the need for collective action to address the root causes of insecurity and violence.
He stressed that authorities and communities must work together to implement effective solutions to curb the menace.
He added that the incident has raised concerns about safety, with many calling for increased measures to prevent such tragedies.
Meanwhile, the MP has also outlined efforts to address security challenges in his constituency. Hon. Okle stated that as part of the government, he is working to support the police in their operations.
He highlighted some key initiatives, which include providing the police with vehicles and motorbikes to enhance patrols and facilitate their movements, and installing streetlights in the area to reduce crimes that often occur in darkness.
Hon. Okle acknowledged the need to shift from a reactive to a proactive approach in addressing security issues, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring the safety of his constituents.
He offered his condolences to the family of the deceased, acknowledging the pain of their loss and citing biblical teachings about God’s sovereignty.
As their MP, he said he is committed to being
there for them, providing companionship and assistance.
