Founder of MILLS (Mindset, Integrity, Loyalty, Leadership & Service Institute), Koku Anyidoho, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for taking a bold and courageous step in eliminating fuel allowances for all appointees.
The policy analyst and theologian noted that this act is a good move which will, in the long run, save the country substantial amounts of resources that could be allocated to other priority areas.
Mr. Anyidoho stated that this clearly defines leadership by example, which would be highly appreciated by the Ghanaian people.
He opined that the electorate are suffering, and for the government to show empathy and allow its appointees to feel the pain and suffering of the masses, then the President must be commended for his courage.
Mr. Anyidoho, who worked as Director of Communications under the late Atta Mills, recounted how his former boss established the Constitution Review Commission (CRC) with one major desire: to have the President and his Vice pay tax to set good examples for the Ghanaian public.
He believes strongly that Mr. Mahama is beginning to use some of the ideas of the late Atta Mills, who he worked with as Vice President.
He added that this also aligns with the ideals and ideology of the NDC, which sees itself as a social democratic party.
He said, “The electorate are suffering, so Government decides to show empathy and cut its expenditure. President Mills set up the Constitution Review Commission (CRC), and one of his desires was to make the President and Vice pay taxes on all emoluments for equity in tax administration. I guess President Mahama is now using some of the ideas of President Mills, and since the NDC is a social democratic party, this is a very good move. For example, President Mills never took per diem on any of his State travels abroad, and that was a huge show of not supporting profligate spending as the president.”
