The Ghana Police Service in the North East Region has arrested four individuals in connection with the murder of Noab Bilatukin, a 70-year-old woman accused of witchcraft.
The four suspects were arrested following a targeted intelligence-led operation after fleeing the scene.
A statement issued by the police stated that the suspects have been identified as 1. Suuk Jakwa, age 67; 2. Banyíwoo Ntookwib, age 32; 3. Moapya Kwayaja, age 30; and 4. Amos Nlaji, age 29.
According to the police, some other suspects are currently on the run.
The police strongly caution the public, particularly residents of the region, against witchcraft accusations and related violence.
“The police would like to reiterate our call on the general public, especially citizens of the North East Region, to desist from the practice of accusing people, especially the aged, of being witches or wizards and subjecting them to violent attacks. Persons who engage in this act will be dealt with legally when caught.”
