The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially reinstated Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) across all public Senior High, Technical, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Schools.
The development, effective immediately, follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama.
Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations for the GES, signed a statement informing the general public, including parents, teachers, and education sector stakeholders, of this decision.
The statement emphasises the rationale behind the reinstatement: “In line with this directive, Management of GES has instructed all Heads of Public Senior High, Technical and STEM Schools to operationalise the reinstatement of PTAs with immediate effect. This move is aimed at strengthening the collaboration and involvement of parents, communities and teachers in the delivery of quality education to Ghanaian learners.”
The GES further noted that “Further guidelines detailing the structure, roles, and financial accountability mechanisms for the effective functioning of PTAs will be issued in due course. These measures are intended to promote transparency, uniformity, and efficiency in the operations of PTAs nationwide. These upcoming guidelines will ensure a clear framework for the PTAs’ operations.
