NPP must not be destroyed by 2024 loss; we must rebrand – Minority Leader

July 19, 2025
Afnyo

Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has admonished the New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to be broken by its defeat in the 2024 general elections.

He has therefore encouraged them to rekindle their commitment and work tirelessly to reclaim power in the 2028 polls.

“We cannot, we must not allow 2024 to become the year that destroys the NPP,” he said.

“We must become a party of Ghana, talking to Ghana. Our constituency executives must master every polling station, our polling stations chairpersons must know every voter, our electoral area coordinators must understand every community’s dream,” he charged the party members.

The lawmaker posited that the party ought to rebrand itself so they will appear stronger.

“We cannot rebrand ourselves through better slogans; we must rebrand ourselves through better results and strong character,” he added.

He used the opportunity in slamming the government over the Ghc1 levy on every litre of fuel introduced by the government and the ongoing processes in connection with the removal of the suspended Chief Justice.

“Their pledge to end galamsey has collapsed into chaos… Their vow to reset our nation has become a brazen assault on our judiciary… Worst of all, the questionable Ablekuma North rerun where NDC-affiliated thugs attacked our candidate… expose their willingness to trample democracy with violence,” he stated.

He added “This is a time of transition… We are in a season that demands sober reflection, radical unity and a return to first principles,” he said. “From this moment, we speak with one voice… We are not Akyem, Ashanti, Fante, Ga or Ewe — we are NPP. We are you.”

“We must rebuild together, brick by brick, anchored in our values and in the unshakable belief that no individual is bigger than the NPP,” he said. “Internal discord, suspicions and disunity have cost us. We must learn from our losses, and do so quickly.”
