Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has warned the Ghanaian public to be cautious of scammers and fraudsters posing as agents to secure them a place in the forthcoming Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise.
The minister warned that the GAF has not contracted any individual, group of persons, institution, or organisation to serve as agents for the recruitment exercise.
He announced that the GAF is preparing to begin its 2025 recruitment exercise.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, July 21, 2025, Dr Boamah stated that the government plans to recruit 12,000 personnel into the GAF between 2025 and 2026.
Dr Boamah, however, cautioned the public to be wary of fraudsters and scammers who would want to take advantage of the exercise and defraud them. He stated:
“Let me sound a note of warning that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have not contracted or delegated any individuals, organisations or institutions for any recruitment or enlistment on its behalf. Furthermore, the Ministry of Defence seeks to support the Ghana Armed Forces to enhance the capabilities of the recruitment and enlistment portal ahead of the August and September manpower enhancement drive.
The public is therefore advised to avoid fraudsters and scammers who pose as agents of the Armed Forces to recruit personnel. You engage them at your own risk. Report them to lawful authority. Joining the Ghana Armed Forces under President Mahama will be based solely on merit, not money.”
He concluded that the government seeks to train soldiers who will not be in a haste to provide guard duties to unauthorised persons, stating categorically that “that era is over”.
