Ghanaian politician and businessman, Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike, has described the purported economic gains and stability of the local currency as a scam.

According to him, the country is currently witnessing extreme hardship with no reflection of these so-called gains.

He stated that the goodwill President John Dramani Mahama enjoyed, which contributed to his victory, is gradually waning. He warned that the President is losing that goodwill, hence the need for him to put his house in order and deal with the challenges confronting the people.

Speaking on Frontline Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm he said “Ghanaians are still suffering, and the sycophants are feeding the President with false information. The confidence Ghanaians had in voting for President John Dramani Mahama is waning. Party and government communicators are also deceiving Ghanaians. The government is telling us the dollar has depreciated, with Ghanaians enjoying some relief, but let’s ask if the prices of kenkey, [Please confirm or clarify “rennet” – it’s an unusual pairing with kenkey. If it was a typo, replace it with the intended commodity] and other commodities have reduced. The plane I traveled with to Kumasi, I paid Ghc3,000 in and out.

I am telling President Mahama point blank that Ghanaians are losing confidence in him. John Mahama is losing ground every day. He promised to pay contractors since that would help them repay their loans, but he has refused to pay because, the moment he does that, the contractors would have to repay their loans in dollars, which would increase the demand for dollars. When you go to the banks, you don’t get dollars. It has affected goods and services, and traders now believe the economic gains are artificial and are reluctant to reduce their prices. We are sad because there is no money in the system, and everybody is complaining,” he lamented.

When asked if it was not too early to make these remarks, he said, “It is not too early. He has only four years and is almost getting to a year in office. His flagship policy, the 24-hour economy, did not even find a place in the budget and mid-year budget. If you do an introspection of his campaign promises and what is happening today, you will discover that he is failing in delivering on these promises.”
