Madam Nyonkopa Daniels, Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to consider promoting long-serving police officers who have demonstrated dedicated service.
She highlighted that many officers, through no fault of their own, have repeatedly attempted and failed their promotion exams.
Despite these setbacks, Madam Daniels emphasised that these individuals are exceptional service personnel who deserve to be promoted.
According to her, it would be appropriate for the President to waive the current promotion process for these officers and instead promote them based on their years of dedicated and committed service to the nation.
During her appearance on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Madam Nyonkopa Daniels reiterated that numerous police officers have served the Ghana Police Service with integrity, dedication, and commitment.
“I am appealing to President John Dramani Mahama to consider my appeal. After winning power, he has taken steps to grant some pardons at the prisons,” she stated. “But Peace Watch Ghana is making this passionate appeal: there are several officers who have served for years but, for various reasons, whenever they attempt to write their exams for promotions, they fail. So I am appealing to President Mahama to waive the exams for some of them. There are some who have been in positions as Chief Inspectors and have seen no promotions, and they are also preparing for retirement.”
She added, “Some of them have served for more than 20 years. They have their challenges, but we have police officers who are dedicated, committed, competent, and men of integrity, and they deserve to be promoted. This is the special appeal our organization is making.”
Her appeal follows weeks after some senior officers were recognized with promotions for their hard work, dedication, and service.
She noted that similar to the 19 senior officers who received promotions, there are equally deserving individuals in the same category who, for various reasons, have not been able to pass their exams.
Background
Nineteen police officers were recently promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police (COP) and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP).
The officers were promoted in testament to their hard work and dedication.
The officers promoted to the rank of COP were Lydia Yaako-Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID); Vance Baba Gariba, Director-General of Operations; Sebastian Atsu Wemegah; Rev. Fr George Arthur; David Agyemang Adjem; Owusu Donyinah; Martin Kwaku Ayiih and Razak Abdul-Osman.
Those promoted to DCOP were God-Act Dodzi Hlordzi; Wisdom Korli; Joseph Owusu Ansah; Joshua Copson; Obed Dzikunu; Phyllis Ama Tebuah Osei; William Wowolo; William Kofi Donkor; Wisdom Lavoe; Francis Christopher Abaka and Benjamin K. Agordzo (rtd).
