The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has criticised National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmakers for their treatment of the late Ernest Yaw Kumi.
Mr Awuku alleged that NDC MPs made the late MP’s life difficult, causing him sleepless nights and frustrating him over the seat until his untimely demise.
He disclosed that both he and Michael Okyere Baafi, MP for New Juaben, were seeking a consultant to undertake a project in their constituencies.
However, Awuku claimed that whenever the late MP for Akwatia scheduled meetings, NDC members would pursue him with court issues.
“We had contracted a consultant to help us execute a project in the constituency. That consultant helped me in registering my non-governmental organisation. The consultant did the same for the MP for Savelugu. The consultant took steps in registering that of Mr Ernest Kumi, but anytime he called for a meeting, the NDC MPs confronted him with court cases. They frustrated him and gave him sleepless nights.”
Following Ernest Kumi’s victory in the 2024 parliamentary election, the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Akwatia, Henry Boakye Yiadom, challenged the results at the Koforidua High Court.
Awuku asserted that this persistent harassment ultimately led to Kumi’s unfortunate death, and now the matter has come to a close.
He eulogised the late MP, describing him as a great man with a good heart who had the interest of his constituents at heart.
He appealed to the constituents to vote massively for the candidate for the NPP.
