The New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary candidate for Akwatia constituency, Solomon Asumado, has paid tribute to the late Ernest Yaw Kumi, commending his tireless efforts that led to the party’s victory in the 2024 parliamentary election.
Mr Asumado noted that Kumi’s success was a result of immense sacrifices, emphasising the need for the party to put aside differences and work towards retaining the seat in honour of their late colleague.
He highlighted Kumi’s impressive performance in the 2020 election, which suggested that he would have won again in 2024 if given another chance, and fortunately, he did win on December 7, 2024.
The candidate reaffirmed his commitment to completing all projects initiated by Kumi if elected as the next Member of Parliament for Akwatia constituency.
These remarks were made during the constituency delegate conference and campaign launch held at Boadua.
Sammi Awuku, Member of Parliament for Akuapem North constituency, reminisced about his good relationship with Kumi in Parliament, expressing shock at his passing.
He shared that both he and Michael Okyere Baafi, Member of Parliament for New Juaben constituency, had been collaborating with Kumi to secure a consultant for projects in their constituencies.
However, Awuku noted that the late MP often faced court challenges from the National Democratic Congress following his meetings.
