President John Dramani Mahama delivered his inaugural public statement on Thursday, August 7, following the tragic military helicopter crash that resulted in the loss of eight lives. In his address, the President urged unity, compassion, and a moment of national reflection.
He also requested restraint from political commentary regarding the tragedy, describing it as a personal loss due to his connection with most of the victims. A state funeral is scheduled for August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square to honour the deceased.
The victims included Minister for Defence Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, and NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong. The three crew members who lost their lives were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
