Probe into missing ammo may have sparked helicopter tampering, so investigate – Peace Watch Ghana

August 10, 2025

The Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, Madam Nyankonpa Daniels, is demanding a thorough investigation into the recent military helicopter crash, suggesting a possibility of sabotage.

Her call follows the death of Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah, who was reportedly investigating the disappearance of military ammunition.

According to Madam Daniels, the circumstances surrounding the crash “do not sound right,” and she believes authorities should “leave no stone unturned.”

She speculates that individuals within the military command may have orchestrated the crash to prevent the ongoing probe into the missing ammunition from becoming public.

Dr. Boamah had confirmed in July 2025 that an investigation was underway into the transfer of military ammunition to the National Security Secretariat in 2024, which had gone unaccounted for.

He had also revealed that the theft of ammunition had been discovered prior to the 2024 general elections. Daniels believes these investigations may have motivated individuals to “tamper with” the helicopter.

Furthermore, Daniels suggests that the removal of top military officers after the current government took office may have angered some, leading to a possible act of revenge.

She emphasised the need for a non-political investigation, stating that playing politics with security agencies “exposes ourselves to danger.”

She concludes by calling for a full investigation to uncover the true cause of the crash.

“I have been crying, asking questions, and speaking to myself, demanding answers. The truth of the matter is that the helicopter crash is something that must be investigated thoroughly. The two political parties, the NDC and the NPP, keep playing politics with our security agencies, especially with the military and the police. I was alarmed when I heard some senior military officers had been removed.

Some people are evil and will always pat you on the back while plotting revenge. I am only expressing an opinion, and so nobody should misconstrue what I am saying. So, if we take over the government and do these things, we expose ourselves to danger. For me, I suspect that maybe the plane was tampered with. All these prophets kept mentioning Omane Boamah, and the event he and the others were travelling to participate in took long to plan, so some people may have taken the opportunity to tamper with the helicopter.

He was investigating the missing ammunition at the GAF, a situation that may not have gone well with some people, so they took the opportunity to tamper with the plane. Omane Boamah was the Defence Minister and may have been blamed for supporting the President to remove them. Something may have gone on, and we want the investigation to be thoroughly done to reveal the true cause of the crash.”
