Helicopter Crash: Let’s unite in this national tragedy, not politicise it – NPP Man

August 11, 2025
Nana Owusu

Nana Owusu, a communications team member for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called the recent helicopter crash a “national tragedy” and urged Ghanaians to avoid politicising the event. Instead, he believes the incident should be a moment for national reflection and a catalyst for institutional reform to prevent future disasters.

Owusu emphasised that the focus should be on comforting the grieving families rather than seeking political gain from the tragedy. “This is not the time for anyone to play politics with what had happened. It is not a political issue,” he stated.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, friends, and staff of the eight individuals who lost their lives, describing them as “brilliant and gallant heroes.” Owusu also extended his sympathies to the President of the Republic. “What happened was a national disaster and a tragedy that has deprived Ghana of 8 brilliant and gallant heroes,” he said.

The NPP communications team member called for national unity in the face of this disaster, stressing that it should compel the country to find ways to implement measures that would prevent a similar incident from ever happening again. He described watching the coverage of the crash and the sight of the victims’ remains being carried in cocoa sacks as “dehumanising and painful.”

“The families of the deceased are grieving. They are going through pains and we must support and console them,” he stressed. “This is a national tragedy that must call for reforms to transform our institutions to prevent another disaster in future.”
