An amount of GH¢809 million has so far been paid to the contractor working on the Pokuase–Nsawam Highway as of August 4, 2025, according to the Controller and Accountant General, Kwasi Agyei.
He assured the Ghanaian public that the government has fully met its financial obligations toward the project.
He disclosed this in a media interview.
Residents in the area and commercial drivers have complained bitterly about the condition of the road.
The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and other unions threatened to go on strike and refuse to drive on the Nsawam-Ofankor road.
However, the contractor has since returned to the site to resume repair works on the major highway.
Commenting on the issue on Peace FM, Mr Kwasi Agyei said, “On July 24, we gave part payment; on July 30, another tranche; and on August 4, the final payment. Altogether, we have honored the request in full, amounting to about GH¢809 million”.
