The Bagre Dam, located in Burkina Faso, is scheduled for a controlled spillage starting Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
According to a statement from Kindo Issiaka, Head of Hydraulics at SONABEL (Société Nationale d’Électricité du Burkina Faso), the dam’s water level is currently at 233.98 meters, which is 86.38% of its capacity and just 1.02 meters below its maximum operating level.
The spillage is necessary to protect the dam’s structural integrity.
SONABEL advised all communities and individuals living downstream to take the necessary precautions.
