The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has given small-scale miners an ultimatum to submit their licenses for verification and review by September 1, 2025, or risk having them revoked.
The directive follows a review of licenses conducted by a special committee tasked with auditing existing small-scale mining licenses.
After the audit, it emerged that 1,278 licenses were reviewed, with 316 found to be clear of irregularities.
However, 962 licenses were found to have various irregularities, with 55 having been revoked earlier this year.
The Ghana National Association of Small-Scale Miners appealed to the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources to extend the deadline to the end of August 2025 so they could rectify the issues.
In a reminder, the Minister warned that all defective licenses remaining by 5 p.m. on September 1, 2025, will be permanently revoked. This was contained in a statement issued by the Licence Review Committee of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
“Affected licence holders are therefore reminded to submit any documentation to prove the legitimacy of their small-scale mining licences to the Ministry on or before 17:00 hrs., 1 September 2025. Failure to do so will result in the revocation of their licence by the Honourable Minister,” portions of the statement read.
