Frank Asiedu Bekoe, the Member of Parliament for Suhum, has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, for his conduct at a recent event.

According to the MP, Mr. Nketiah’s actions were the cause of a near-attack by mourners at the one-week observance for the late MP Ernest Yaw Kumi in Akwatia on Friday, August 29, 2025.

Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Frontline, Mr. Asiedu Bekoe, who is popularly known as “Protozoa,” stated that Mr. Nketiah provoked the mourners by making his characteristic “throat-slitting” hand gesture.

The MP described the act as inappropriate and insensitive, especially given the somber nature of the memorial service.

”The NDC frustrated the late Ernest Yaw Kumi by litigating with him over the seat. They gave him sleepless nights, and unfortunately, he lost his life,” Mr. Asiedu Bekoe said. “Coming to the week’s observance and making that sign was insensitive and it infuriated the women who were at the program. Asiedu Nketiah brought this upon himself. He should behave well.”

The MP added that it was the women who became particularly agitated and wanted to physically confront him.

Mr. Asiedu Bekoe urged the NDC Chairman to exhibit greater political maturity, particularly in light of his alleged presidential aspirations, and to refrain from engaging in activities that could incite tension.

”That sign agitated the women. The men did not attack him. The men were those that hooted at him,” he clarified. “I don’t think he even has the moral right to speak about this issue. He should keep quiet and learn lessons from what has happened.”
