The Electoral Commission (EC) is set to conduct a by-election in the Akwatia Constituency today, Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
This election has been necessitated by the unfortunate passing of the late Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
According to data from the Electoral Commission of Ghana’s 2024 register, the Akwatia Constituency has a total of 52,328 registered voters.
The by-election will be held across 119 polling stations.
To ensure a peaceful and secure voting process, the Ghana Police Service has deployed 5,500 officers to the area.
Three candidates are vying for the vacant parliamentary seat: Bernard Baidoo, the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); Solomon Asumadu, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate; and a third candidate, Owusu Patrick.
During the 2024 general election, voter turnout in the constituency was just over 70%, with 36,769 votes cast. Of these, 294 votes were rejected.
