An investigation by the Tema Development Company (TDC) Limited has revealed that the Tema Central Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who also served as a protocol officer to a former TDC Managing Director, illegally sold a public plot of land to his wife for GHS 2,000.

Addressing journalists in Accra on Thursday, September 4, 2025, TDC’s Managing Director, Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, stated that the land was originally designated for a public toilet facility. Following an internal investigation, TDC terminated the officer’s contract.

The TDC is actively working to recover illegally acquired state lands as part of its mission to support the nation’s infrastructure and housing development. Mr. Nunekpeku confirmed that TDC has since retrieved the land, located behind Tema Secondary School, for state development projects.

“The NPP Tema Central Constituency Secretary sold that place to the wife at the cost of GHS2000. The documents are with me, I can make it available. When I went into the matter I said no way I engaged the woman and I terminated the contract,” he stated.

He added “…I am not grabbing any land, I am just doing the right thing for the Ghanaian. I terminated that contract and now the place is for the state to be used as a public toilet.”
