Bechem United will be without three key players for the start of the new season due to injuries, the club’s Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Gyasi Attuahene, has confirmed.
The announcement came during an interview on Rainbow Sports with Fantastic KG on Wednesday, September 10.
The three players sidelined for the opening match are forward Augustine Okrah, midfielder Issiah Nyarko, and attacker Yaw Annor.
According to Attuahene, all three underwent surgery at the end of the last season and have been unable to participate in the club’s pre-season training.
Despite the setback, Attuahene expressed optimism about their recovery.
“We are hopeful that these three players would recover and join the team,” he stated. “We are optimistic that they will recover not at the end of this month or not the first week of October… These are the three players who would not be available for Match Day One, but we are hopeful the medical team would work on them so they would be available for selection in subsequent games.”
Mr Attuahene downplayed concerns that the absences would negatively impact the team’s performance, noting that the squad has proven its depth during the pre-season.
“We know that these three players have exceptional qualities that on any day when they come on board, they will really help the team,” he said. “But in their absence, we have equally good ones whom we trust in their qualities, and when given the opportunity, they will not disappoint anyone.”
The club official also used the opportunity to call for continued support from fans.
“We expect our fans to continue with their support,” he appealed. “Without the fans, the team will not be in existence, and without the team, there would be no supporters. We therefore appeal to them to continue to support us because we believe with their support, the team can live up to expectations.”
