The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has fulfilled its pledge of 1 million Ghana cedis to each of the 18 Ghana Premier League clubs.

The money is to help strengthen the clubs as they prepare to participate in the new Premier League season.

This was disclosed by President Kurt Okraku in a Facebook post.

He wrote, “The Ghana Football Association, in collaboration with Adesa Productions and Ghana Premiership Football Limited, is proud to have fulfilled its pledge of 1 million Ghana cedis to each of the 18 GPL clubs. This investment is poised to not only strengthen our clubs but also elevate the league’s competitiveness, ushering in a thrilling new era for Ghanaian football.”

Confirming the news, Nana Effah, the Public Relations Officer for Medeama FC, said they have received the amount in the club’s account.

He confirmed this in a telephone call with Rainbow Radio’s Andrews Kwabena Gyasi, also known as Fantastic KG.

Background

In July of this year, the GFA’s President announced a “minimum” GHC 1 million cash payment to Premier League clubs ahead of the 2025/26 football season.

This follows a new broadcast partnership between the country’s football governing body, the government — through the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah — and rights holders Adesa Productions.

The deal was officially launched on Thursday, July 31, in Accra.

“Through this unique partnership with Adesa Productions, each one of our GPL clubs will, before the start of the league season, receive the amount of a million Ghana cedis each,” Kurt said.

“This will be made possible through the new partnership. This will be our minimum payment for each of our GPL clubs under our new model.

“This is not a grant, it is a firm commitment by the Football Association, by Adesa Productions and by the government.”
