The Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) has revealed that 21 private Senior High Schools have been added to the automatic school placement system.

Dr. Aisha Akrofi, Greater Accra regional chairperson for GNAPS, stated in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM that the original plan by the current administration is to pilot 70 private SHSs.

She noted that they are scheduled to have a meeting with the Ministry of Education to discuss the remaining 49 private SHSs that would be added to the placement system.

The Ministry of Education announced on September 18, 2025, that as part of the Free SHS Programme, it is piloting 70 private SHSs.

At the time of school selection, however, only 21 private schools were available.

All 70 private schools are now accessible on the portal, providing more opportunities for students who could not be placed during the automatic placement system, the Ministry indicated.

In order to reduce the stress on parents and guardians, resolution centers have been set up at the district, regional, and national levels—at the GES/TVET district and regional offices, with the GNAT hall in Accra serving as the national resolution center.

Dr. Aisha Akrofi confirmed this but noted that they were hopeful that placement for all 70 piloted private schools would be made available, giving students who could not be placed the opportunity to get schools.

”We are hopeful that the 49 remaining private SHSs will be accessible on the portal, providing more opportunities for self-placement students who have passed their exams.”

She informed parents and guardians that the government will cover the costs for day students in private SHSs, while parents will bear the costs if their child opts for boarding facilities.

She assured Ghanaians that the private schools are fully prepared to offer the best teaching and learning experience for those who are placed in the selected private schools.

The Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) is a network of private schools in Ghana that strives to provide quality, accessible, and affordable education for all children, including those from low-income and marginalied backgrounds.

The Association facilitates the sharing of best practices and innovative solutions among its members and partners to improve the performance and sustainability of private schools in Ghana.
