A former Member of Parliament for the Tain constituency, Mr. Gabriel Osei, has claimed that the arrest of Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, is a classical case of using a sledgehammer to kill a fly.
The former MP indicated that he does not support Abronye DC’s behaviour; however, if authorities want to punish him, they must equally punish others who have done far worse things.
He stated that the likes of Kelvin Taylor and Sofo Azorka have done worse things that should have warranted their arrest, yet they were treated with kid gloves.
Focusing on the alleged threats by Sofo Azorka against Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin, he opined that this was a far more serious crime that warranted severe punishment compared to someone insulting another.
“Between threatening to kill somebody and insulting someone, which one is a more grievous offense warranting severe punishment? I am not saying he should not be punished, but if what he did was wrong and he is being punished, why are the rest not also being punished? Why were Kelvin Taylor and Azorka given special treatment and Abronye was manhandled? This is purely an abuse of power and it is not democracy. I will condemn Abronye for what he did but will also not forget what Kelvin Taylor did. He insulted traditional leaders and almost everyone, and yet when he came to Ghana, he was given state protection by the National Security,” he said in an interview with Sir Richie on ‘As it is In Ghana’, on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM.
“You claim Abronye had insulted the IGP, and so you arrested and manhandled him, and kept him in custody, but somebody who threatened to kill another person was arrested and granted bail the same day. We have to condemn any wrongdoing, whether our party members are involved or not.”
He has therefore warned that he will “sponsor the arrest of Kelvin Taylor if he is not arrested and prosecuted by this government if the NPP wins the 2028 general elections.”
