In his remarks at the O’Reilly Senior High School centenary celebration on September 20, 2025, Deputy Education Minister Dr. Clement Apaak affirmed the government’s strong commitment to enhancing the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy and the broader education sector.
The Builsa South Member of Parliament emphasized the government’s dedication to investing in infrastructure development.
He stated that the focus would be on constructing new schools, renovating existing facilities, and creating a learning environment that meets modern standards.
Dr. Apaak noted that the government will also prioritize teacher training and professional development, while integrating technology into education and upholding foundational values.
“We seek to increase investment in infrastructure development, constructing new schools, renovating existing facilities, and ensuring that learning environments meet modern standards. We are prioritizing teacher training and professional development, recognising that quality education requires quality educators. We have embraced technology in education, preparing our students for a digital future while maintaining the foundational values that institutions like O’Reilly hold dear.”
The ceremony’s theme was “Steadfastness: An Endearing Value for Academic Excellence.”
Dr. Apaak connected this theme to various stakeholders, saying: “The theme of today’s celebration reminds us that academic excellence is not achieved through sporadic bursts of effort or momentary inspiration—it is the product of steadfast commitment, consistent effort, and unwavering dedication. This truth applies equally to students, teachers, institutions, and governments.”
He then urged students to stay focused on their studies, avoid distractions, and never give up on their dreams.
“For students, steadfastness means maintaining focus on your studies even when distractions abound, persevering through challenging subjects, and never giving up on your dreams. It means understanding that success is not measured by how quickly you reach your destination but by your determination to keep moving forward regardless of obstacles.”
Addressing the teachers, he said:
“For teachers, steadfastness means remaining committed to your calling even when resources are limited, continuing to inspire even when students seem unmotivated, and maintaining your passion for education despite the many challenges of the profession.”
He also extended this message to institutions like O’Reilly:”For institutions like O’Reilly, steadfastness means upholding standards of excellence across generations, adapting to change while preserving core values, and never compromising on the quality of education provided.”
Dr. Apaak concluded by highlighting the government’s long-term commitment to education, reiterating the importance of sustained funding for the sector.
“For government, steadfastness means maintaining long-term commitment to educational policies, ensuring consistent funding and support, and recognizing that educational transformation is a marathon, not a sprint.”
