Call to expel Nigerians Is terrible agenda fuelled by Hate, says Economic Fighters League Founder

September 23, 2025

Founder of the Economic Fighters League, Ernesto Yeboah, says attempts by some Ghanaians to have Nigerians and other African nationals removed from Ghana are unfortunate and against the principles of African unity.

He said the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who pushed for African unity, would be “turning in his grave” over these attempts to force Nigerians out of the country.

Speaking in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Ernesto Yeboah stated, “If there are those who have breached our laws and we want to punish them, that is a different matter, but the blanket call for all Nigerians to be removed from Ghana is a terrible agenda fuelled by hate.”

On September 22, a day after Ghana marked Founder’s Day, the Economic Fighters’ League (Fighters) led a protest in Accra to rally for a united Africa.

He took a swipe at the Ghana Union of Traders, who have consistently demanded that Nigerians and other African nationals be removed from Ghana’s markets. Yeboah questioned why they have not applied the same energy against the Chinese, Indians, and other foreigners who are not of African descent.

He therefore underscored the need for intensified public education and awareness surrounding trading issues so that Nigerian traders and their Ghanaian counterparts would have a healthy relationship.

Ernesto Yeboah accused Ghanaian traders of being consumed by greed to the point where they overprice their products, while Nigerians reduce theirs so they can sell more quickly.

He advised the Ghanaian traders to stop “fleecing” Ghanaians and to reasonably price their goods so they don’t see foreigners as a threat.

“I am sad today for being a Ghanaian over what is happening because it was in Ghana that our first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, led a campaign for African unity. He stood for a Pan-African vision. He wanted African unity and he did not only live for it but died for it,” he added.

“If some of these Nigerians have breached our laws and are engaging in petty trading that goes against our laws, let’s deal with them, but that should not be used as a yardstick to demand that all Nigerians should be removed or deported from Ghana.”
