Nyonkopa Daniels, the Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, says Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, has been attacking Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohonu since President Akufo-Addo took office.
She disclosed that the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been launching vile and unprovoked attacks on the IGP since his party was in power, yet they have failed to call him to order.
“Abronye DC started attacking and insulting the IGP right from the first term of President Akufo-Addo. At one point, I had to call him and ask why he was insulting him. I am not saying we shouldn’t criticize people, but insulting them is unhealthy and undermines national cohesion,” she said on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM.
Madam Daniels lamented that these continuous attacks on the IGP, while the NPP looks on, are unfortunate.
She stated that Christian Tetteh Yohonu has distinguished himself, rising through the ranks before being appointed IGP. She recalled the days when Christian Yohonu was the Greater Accra Regional Commander, where he led several security initiatives that led to the arrest of many armed robbers.
Madam Daniels also revealed that a politician recently called her to ask her to join him and others to rise against the IGP, claiming she had a beef with him.
“I have no personal issue with the IGP. I am not prepared to fabricate lies about him, so those plotting against him should stop bothering me. To those claiming he is arresting people, you did the same thing when George Dampare was in charge. Today, Yohonu is in charge, and you want to do the same thing to him. Stop it immediately.”
Appearing on Frontline, she added that the IGP may have his flaws, but they have not affected his professional conduct, and so those who are plotting against him should stop.
She reiterated the need for the NPP to call Abronye DC to order. She also slammed him for coming after the IGP again after he was released from custody in his ongoing court case.
