The Economic Fighters League (EFL) has criticized the founder of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga, for allegedly inciting a campaign against Nigerians residing in Ghana.
Ernesto Yeboah, the founder of the EFL, stated that Mr. Ayariga is exploiting political opportunities by fueling a campaign of hatred against Nigerians living in Ghana.
He argued that if not for Nigeria, politicians like Ayariga would not have had access to education, and therefore he should be the last person to advocate for such a hateful agenda.
For several months, Mr. Ayariga has been outspoken against certain celebrations by Nigerians in Ghana. In July of this year, he opposed the establishment of an Igbo community or “kingdom,” arguing that it poses a serious threat to the sovereignty, unity, and legal integrity of the Republic of Ghana. He recently petitioned the Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru, to oppose a planned yam festival celebration by Igbos in Ghana.
The EFL has strongly condemned this agenda. In an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Yeboah disclosed that Ayariga himself was educated in Nigeria and should not be pushing an agenda that promotes hatred against Nigerians.
Ernest to Yeboah affirmed that Ghana has the right to deport any foreigner, including Nigerians, who violate the law.
However, he stressed that a hateful agenda against Nigerians should not be tolerated when they have done nothing wrong. Yeboah invoked the Pan-African vision of the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, which called for African unity, arguing that this vision should continue to be pursued without animosity.
“Hassan Ayariga lived and schooled in Nigeria,” Yeboah said. “If what he is doing today against Nigerians had been done to him, he would not have had access to education. We need to change our mindset. This is a total disgrace to Ghana. Ayariga is engaging in politics, and I am wondering why Ghanaians are supporting his agenda. Ayariga attended Barewa College in Zaria State, and if Nigerians had demanded that Ghanaians must leave, he would not have had access to education. We should stop this. It is needless. We need to unite and live as Africans.”
