High Commissioner Zita Benson demands efficiency to boost Ghana Mission’s image

September 27, 2025
ZITA

Ghana’s current High Commissioner to the UK, H.E. Sabah Zita Benson, has strongly advised staff working in the Consular Section to maintain a high standard of efficiency and professionalism, emphasising the need to treat all service seekers with the utmost respect.

During a staff durbar held on Friday, September 26, 2025 (note: a future date of September 26, 2026, was in the original text), H.E. Zita Benson stressed that the Consular Section is essentially the face of the Ghana Mission in the UK, requiring all employees to approach their duties with seriousness and dedication.

She encouraged staff to treat their responsibilities as if they were personal enterprises, cautioning them against adopting an attitude that suggests they are doing applicants a favour by providing essential services.

The High Commissioner announced her intent to personally monitor staff performance to ensure delivery, warning that those who fail to meet expected standards will face sanctions.

“The Consular Section is the face of the Mission in the UK. We should treat this job as if it were our own; it is your own business that needs customers to return. When we behave as if we are doing them a favor by being here, that is where we go wrong from day one. We are here because of them,” she stated.

“Some of us are privileged to have been posted here for a four-year term to work. Do not view this as a temporary posting where you will eventually return home and therefore choose not to give your best. Things are going to be different. I will be monitoring progress; I will be looking for results and efficiency. If I determine that you are not doing your best, we will have a conversation here, and a conversation back home too. The four years should be beneficial to Ghana,” she added. “Let us ensure the image of the Consular Section is excellent. Let us change the narrative regarding how applicants view our Ghana Missions. Customer Service must be our priority.”

Prior to the staff durbar, the High Commissioner, who arrived in the UK for her official duties on September 20, 2025, held productive engagements with the Ghanaian community in the UK, including professionals from the media, banking, health, and pharmaceutical industries.

Her first day of official work was on September 25, 2025, during which she received representatives from the Christian Council, UK and Ireland.
