Former Ghanaian international footballer, Yaw Amanwah Mireku, has commended the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for the disbursement of a historic GHS 1 million to each of the eighteen Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs.
The retired footballer indicated that this substantial investment represents a significant positive step that will be instrumental in the transformation of the domestic league.
This payment fulfills a landmark financial commitment established under the GFA’s new partnership with Adesa Productions Limited.
The disbursement was first publicly announced by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku on July 31, 2025, during the official unveiling of Adesa as the league’s new broadcast rights holder.
Commenting on this development in an interview with Rainbow Sports, Yaw Amankwah Mireku noted that this unprecedented financial support will provide essential fiscal relief to the clubs, thereby enhancing their operational capacity and improving player welfare.
“We must commend the GFA for injecting this crucial amount of money into the clubs. It signifies motivation and heralds a new beginning. It demonstrates that the officials at the GFA have accurately assessed the recent decline in the league’s standards and are implementing viable solutions to effect improvement. It is important that we recognise and support their efforts. We must collectively offer our support, knowledge, and skills to ensure the Ghanaian league surpasses its current status,” he told Fantastic K G.
He strongly encouraged the clubs to utilize the funds judiciously, optimize their performance, and contribute to making the league highly competitive.
